Legal Awareness For Nigeria Women (LANW)

Promoting Peace Among Young Persons And Communities

Project Background

With support from NIGERIA STABILITY AND RECONCILIATION PROGRAMME (NSRP), LAWN implemented a project in Zaria and Kaduna South LGAs building knowledge and skills to deal with gender based violence issues from 2014 – 2017. Peace clubs set up by LANW in these localities monitored and reported on cases of gender based violence to relevant authorities and human rights organisations. So far there has been increased awareness and appreciation of the fundamental rights of women and girls amongst youths, traditional leaders in the focal communities.

Under the project over 300 youth, women and girls in both Zaria and Kaduna south LGA had their skills built to participate in activities of peace building efforts and to negotiate and make life choices. In addition, fifty number (both male and female) recorded cases of changes in attitudes in Zaria LGA and Barnawa towards the rights of women and girls.
